Senokot Tablets are a stimulant laxative used for the short-term relief of occasional constipation in adults.

Each tablet contains senna fruit equivalent to 7.5mg of hydroxyanthracene glycosides, calculated as sennoside B.

Senokot stimulates the muscles in the bowel, helping move stools through the digestive system and encouraging a bowel movement.

Adults and older people should take one or two tablets at bedtime with a drink of water. New users should begin with the lowest dose.

Senokot is taken at bedtime to help produce a bowel movement the following morning. The exact time it takes to work may vary.

This formulation is intended for adults aged 18 years and over. People under 18 should only use it when advised by a medical professional.

Senokot should not be used for longer than one week. It is normally sufficient to take it two or three times during that week.

Do not take Senokot if you have intestinal obstruction, severe dehydration, inflammatory bowel disease, unexplained abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, rectal bleeding or faecal impaction.

Senokot 7.5mg Tablets should not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about a suitable alternative.

Possible side effects include abdominal pain, cramps, diarrhoea and allergic reactions such as itching, rash, hives or asthma. Harmless yellow or reddish-brown urine discolouration may also occur.
