Dioctyl Capsules are a laxative used to prevent and treat long-term constipation. They may also make passing stools easier for people with haemorrhoids.

Each capsule contains 100mg of docusate sodium, a type of laxative known as a stool softener.

Dioctyl Capsules are suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over. They are not suitable for children under 12.

Swallow each capsule whole with water. Take the capsules individually at regular intervals throughout the day, following the patient leaflet or your healthcare professional’s instructions.

Adults and children aged 12 years and over may take up to five capsules daily, although fewer may be sufficient. Reduce the dose as your constipation improves.

Yes. Dioctyl 100mg Capsules can be taken either with or without food.

Do not take Dioctyl if you have stomach pain, a blocked bowel, have felt sick or vomited within the previous 24 hours, or cannot tolerate fructose or sorbitol. Ask a pharmacist if you are unsure.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Dioctyl if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Rare side effects include diarrhoea, nausea and stomach cramps. Skin rash or itching may also occur. Stop taking the capsules and seek medical advice if you experience a concerning reaction.
