Buscopan Cramps relieve painful stomach and bowel cramps, including abdominal discomfort associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

They contain hyoscine butylbromide, an antispasmodic medicine that relaxes the cramping muscles in the stomach and bowel.

Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew them. Always follow the dosage instructions in the patient information leaflet.

Adults and children aged 12 and over can take two tablets up to four times daily. Children aged 6–12 can take one tablet up to three times daily.

Adults and children aged 12 and over should initially take one tablet three times daily. This may be increased to two tablets four times daily if required.

Children aged six and over may take Buscopan for general stomach cramps. It is not recommended for children under six, while treatment for IBS is only suitable from age 12.

Buscopan generally begins relieving painful abdominal cramps within approximately 15 minutes, although the response can vary between individuals.

Do not take it if you have glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, a blocked or enlarged bowel, or an allergy to hyoscine butylbromide. Consult a pharmacist or doctor if you are unsure.

Buscopan Cramps should not be taken if you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are breastfeeding unless advised otherwise by a healthcare professional.

Do not take Buscopan continuously for longer than two weeks. Seek medical advice sooner if the pain persists or worsens, or occurs with fever, vomiting, faintness, bowel changes or blood in the stool.
