• What is Alka-Seltzer Extra Strong used for?

It provides short-term relief from mild to moderate pain, including headaches, migraines, toothache, period pain, backache, sore throats and muscular pain. It can also reduce fever and relieve cold and flu symptoms.

  • What are the active ingredients?

Each tablet contains aspirin 267mg, paracetamol 133mg and caffeine 40mg.

  • How do I take Alka-Seltzer Extra Strong?

Adults and children aged 16 and over should dissolve two tablets completely in half a glass (approximately 100ml) of water before drinking.

  • How often can I take it?

Take two tablets every four hours when required. Do not take more than eight tablets within 24 hours and do not use for longer than three days without medical advice.

  • Can children take Alka-Seltzer Extra Strong?

No. It is not recommended for children under 16 unless specifically prescribed by a doctor because it contains aspirin.

  • Can I take it with paracetamol or other painkillers?

Do not take it alongside other medicines containing paracetamol or aspirin. Speak to a pharmacist before combining it with ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory painkillers.

  • Who should not take this medicine?

Do not take it if you have or have previously had a stomach ulcer, a bleeding disorder, severe heart, liver or kidney problems, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or an allergy to aspirin, paracetamol, caffeine or similar anti-inflammatory medicines.

  • Can I take it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Do not take it during the final three months of pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Ask a doctor before taking it during the first six months of pregnancy or if you are trying to conceive.

  • Does Alka-Seltzer Extra Strong contain sodium or caffeine?

Yes. Each tablet contains 472mg of sodium and 40mg of caffeine. Consult a healthcare professional if you follow a low-sodium diet, and limit additional caffeine while using it.

  • What should I do if I take too many tablets?

Contact a doctor or go to your nearest emergency department immediately, even if you feel well. An overdose of paracetamol can cause delayed, serious liver damage.
